The year gone by, the year to come

2015 was an amazing year.  More and more citizens are learning to excersize their 2nd Amendment rights and taking classes to be responsible gun owners.  We've certainly had some scares both overseas and right here in America, but there is good reason for hope.  With more concealed carriers out there, we may serve as the first line of defense.  That's what this Florida sheriff thinks.  Similar notions are echoed by a New York sheriff who openly encouraged people to carry every day if they are able.

ATTENTION LICENSED HANDGUN OWNERS

In light of recent events that have occurred in the United States and around the world I want to encourage citizens of Ulster County who are licensed to carry a firearm to PLEASE DO SO.

I urge you to responsibly take advantage of your legal right to carry a firearm. To ensure the safety of yourself and others, make sure you are comfortable and proficient with your weapon, and knowledgeable of the laws in New York State with regards to carrying a weapon and when it is legal to use it.

Needless to say, it is very encouraging to see the open support of concealed carriers from law enforcement.  After all, the only thing that stops a bad buy with a gun is a good guy (or gal) with a gun.  As 2016 approaches, let's resolve to be ready to do our part to protect ourselves, our family, and our communities.

For 2016, maybe your resolution, like mine is:

  • to get to the range at least once per month to have some fun keep your skills sharp as a responsible gun owner
  • to pay attention to the upcoming elections and who is holding what opinions on what is already your constitutional rights
  • to get at least one of your anti-gun friends (we've all got one) to come down and have a good time at the range and maybe change their opinion
  • attend further training beyond my CCW.

Whatever your resolution, we at Show Me Shooters wish you a safe and happy new year.

May the best of your past be the worst of your future.
